The Wall Street Journal reveals that informal talks were held for the acquisition by Airbnb of Hotel Tonight, a mobile app for last minute hotel discounts. According to the magazine, Airbnb needs to gain credibility in the eyes of investors to show that they can push beyond their core-business strategies, related to short-term rentals.
Robi Veltroni, Scientific and Editorial Coordinator at Officina Turistica, reminds hoteliers that after OTAs, the telephone is the next major channel for direct bookings. However, hoteliers are loosing this channel to a lack of staff and skills. "A decline that could be canceled with a series of attention and strategies that we will see below."
The latest research by the Digital Tourism Innovation Observatory reveals that in 2018, the travel market in Italy grew by 2%, thanks to digital components.
